It is a useful number, Ford parts can cross it to a part number most of the time and if an if the drawing number or Engineering number is on the computer then that is the number that auto parts stores and salvage yards go by.

But if you know the part number then it is much easier to get or order a part from a Ford dealer as in your case with the fuel selector valve that auto parts stores do not sell.
