To anyone that has put a SBC or SBF in a 1951-52 F-1
Hey guys, just wondering..I know new cross members have to be made or bought to fit a small block Ford or Chevy with a different tranny into a 51-52 F-1 but just wondering if the original riveted in cross members(left and right) for the motor have to come out in one of these swaps...I am prepping my frame with POR 15 and was wondering...Thanx..GD

SBF IN 52
I have a 289/C4 in a 52 F1. You can use the original tranny crossmember and modify it( some trimming and welding a flat mount to match tranny of choice). The down side to this is if you need to remove the tranny, you'll have to take the engine and tranny out together. I made a crossmember out of 1x1 square tube that I can bolt in and out. The original engine mounts will be in the way of whatever engine you put in. It might not actually hit the mounts, but with whatever add ons to the engine probably will.General access to the engine will be limited. GO WITH A FORD IN A FORD It's alittle harder but we will help.

Yeah, I do but they are on my home computer, I'm at work now. I'll try to do it tonight or tomorrow. It's an easy set up. The shifter (I have Lokar) ends up almost in the stock position. I don't know what rear end you're using, but you'll probably have to shorten the driveshaft. Others on this site are working through the same set up and will probably reply as well. Good luck. Hope this helps.

The 289/302 will fit without the need to remove the original engine mounts in the front. I made custom side mounts to install the engine when I did mine. No need to add an additional crossmember under the engine. As noted, the C4 trans fits without any firewall or tunnel mods and minimal crossmember modifications.

Unfortunately, no. And the truck is long gone. But they are easy to build. All it takes is a piece of plate steel to box a small area of the frame, a piece of 3" square tubing to use as an upright, a piece of small round tubing for the motor mount bolt to go through welded to the top of the square tube and you're in business. Install the engine in the location where you want it and build the mounts to fit. It's custom fabrication, but it's certainly not rocket science.
