Broken Brakes, what a headache!

So I start hearing my brakes grind more and more. Took it to my mechanic and he said it would take 8 days to get my truck in. Ok Cool, I can wait. Nope, 2 days later I hear a thud and my pedal goes to the floor. I pumped it a couple times and it goes back to normal. Luckily I'm pulling into the Walmart parking lot when it happened. I get out to take a look and the pad is stuck between the rotor and dust shield. So I call around for an emergency fix and Monro had an opening. So I limp my truck to them (mile away) and they say that the caliper piston is rubbing on the rotor so that will need replaced. I asked how much the entire (REAR) will cost to replace everything, Calipers, Rotors, and Pads. The guy has the nerve to say

"I'm not sure off hand but it'll be a few hundred dollars, but it looks like you have a few hundred dollars wrapped up in your truck already"

That's a big red flag if you ask me. Just because I have money to spend on customizing my truck doesn't mean you should say that. Turns out to be $700 for the job with lifetime warrentee, or $600 for their cheaper products with just a 1 year warrentee, or I could save $50 and get tehir cheapest pads that he doesnt recommend anyone buying, Nice.

OK So I call Autozone and get their price on parts $290 total with lifetime warrentee on everything. I can do brakes so I tell Monro to get my truck off the lift, I'll do it myself. Boy, was he pissed that he couldn't scam me on a brake job.

I got my truck to autozone and then to home (5 miles)where I had my dad assist me with the brakes, Suprisingly enough, the stock jack and a piece of 2x4 was enough to lift my truck. I didn't think it would get that high. My dad hands me the parts so I can do the job, get it done and now the lines won't bleed. I tried everything, Nothing. So I have to wait till my appointment with my mechanic to finish the job, I was going to have him look at the front anyway. So a wweek goes by and I drive the truck with very little brakes to him, luckily it was a straight shot, Still about 4 miles. and it turns out my dad handed me the wrong calipers, I had them on the wrong side and didn't even notice the bleeder valve being on the bottom instead of the top. I'm dumb. The front pads still had 50% left on them. So all he did was switch the calipers around and bleed the brakes for $65

Brake job total: $355
Tylonol: $6.99

Being able to stop without worries: Priceless

You might want to consider replacing the three flex hoses while you're at it.
