Whats inside a Stock V10 muffler?

I'd like to see the inside of a stock V10 muffler. Has anybody peeled one open or have one in Arizona they want to get rid of?

OK I'am game. I'd say exhaust. Other than that, I don't know. Maybe time to get a new muffler for your van?

I have one from my F250 that I opened up so as to save the tailpipe. Turned out I just needed to grind off the weld and there was 2-3 inches of pipe inside the muffler that came right out.

It's a chambered design, nothing special. In the pics below, there are two large pipes, one is the input, one is the output - both run through both chambers. One is missing from the pic, but there are two smaller pipes in the one visible chamber, but they almost dead-end into another plate between the two chambers. Don't know what's on the other side of that plate in the middle, but I suspect another two smaller pipes.

Standard, stock, stuff.

Thanks! I'm think of droping mine down and opening it up so I can free up the flow inside. It would be as much work cutting and welding a new muffler. I do it to chain saws and small engines so why not?

My stock muffler has some kind of internal vibration. At first I thought it was the heat shield, but it's not. Interesting to see what it looks like on the inside. I think I'll just replace it though.

Not sure sure it's as easy as putting a new muffler in.

I spent more time just cutting that thing open than it took to put a whole brand-new Magnaflow on it

And the Magnaflow is prettier
