Fuel Tank Padding

1996 F350 with 351 and dual steel tanks.

i'm sandblasting my rear frame. removed bed, fuel tanks, exhaust, shocks, etc.

on crossmembers and fuel tank straps, there is a padded material from the factory that is glued on in order to prevent metal to metal contact against the fuel tanks. i had to remove it in order to properly sandblast everything.

what have others used for this purpose when replacing this stuff?

I used weather stripping from the hardware store. It was a closed cell foam almost rubber like product. I think it was designed for use when adding a cap on the truck bed. It had an adhesive on one side. Worked pretty good when I replaced the rear tank last fall on '92 F350.

I used leftover rubber off an old innertube for a trailer tire and cut it into strips.

Just saying 3rd here. I used it on both tanks while doing my 89 rebuild project.

I used ice & watershield roofing underlayment. It's rubberized asphalt with adhesive on one side.
