Question 97 Expy w/ 6" Lift (Check Suspension Light On)

Hi Guys!!

I just bought a nice 97 Expy with a Fabtech 6" lift. The check suspension light is on but it sits level. The previous owner told me that it has air ride on all four corners.

Why would the check suspension light be on if its not leaking? One thing I do notice, might be cause Im just not used to the air ride, but it does feel loose when hitting bumps or grooves in the road. Is that normal of an air ride?

Any info is and will be greatly appreciated. Heres some pics.

I don't think you have a 4 wheel air suspeneion. The Fabtech kit works with the rear air suspension trucks bt not the four wheel air trucks. The front air suspension was relly just air shocks, it still used the torsion bars for springs.

My guess is, you have the rear air suspension and because of the lift, the ride height sensor is out of whack. You should be able to have autozone pull a code for you if a light is on.

Someone else might know the air system better here too, my truck doesn't have it.

Ok. I thought all 4x4 Expys had the airrideon all 4 corners. I noticed the switch is in the off position. So I called the previousowner back and he said he keeps it off to keep the back end up while its not in use. Does this make sense? How is it staying up if its off and should I turn it back on? And if I do, how can I keep the back ed from squatting when its not being used?

if it leaks when you have the switch on you have something wrong with your air ride

When you turn off your truck and the switch is on the rear will sag about an inch or so. Mine does this every time I shut it off and pumps right back up when started and put in gear. another thing it will do or anyway mine does it some times, when put into 4x4 it will raise an inch or more, and 4x4 low it will raise some more. Mine doesn't always do this.

if you have 4 wheel air the front and rear will drop an inch, and yes in 4x4 it does raise up higher, however if it drops more then an inch which was I was talking about then you have a problem

Just a stab in the dark here, but maybe the front suspension isn't lowering when the engine is turned off. This will give the appearance of the rear suspension squatting.

Ok, it doesnt drop much at all. So I dont think there is a problem. I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens when I go out in the morning and check if it went any lower. Thanks for the responses.

Off subject but what size wheels/tires are you running? Do you happen to know the backspacing on those wheels? And are there any rubbing/cleance issues? Thanks Bro
