Decode an Expedition VIN Number
Can anyone decode this 2000 Expedition VIN Number?:

I'm trying to figure out what trailer rating it might have and the vehicle is 200 miles away. Can you get a copy of the original sticker somewhere, if you give someone the VIN number?
TIA

Decode an Expedition VIN Number
Sorry. This Board is pretty slow, so I don't check very often. I stumbled onto this address:
www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/non-html/2001/19_24.pdf
Of course, that's for 2001, but most things are pretty constant. As for the axle codes on the door jamb, I did find that H9 is a 3.55 and H6 is 3.73. I want to be able to identify the trailer towing capacity of an Expedition that we might buy used. The one we want has L in the 8th position of the VIN; L is for 5.4 liter engine. And it has H6 for an axle code.
By going to my local Ford dealer I have found that most/many XLT Expeditions have the smaller engine (6 engine code). Most Eddie Bauers have the 5.4 and the 3.55 axle. It will be tough, I believe, to find a good 5.4/3.73 combination. I was trying to deal on an XLT 200 miles away and the guy gave me the VIN and said it had a 5.4. The VIN said it was a 4.6. He finally went to check it (one of 500 vehicles) and it was a 4.6. That's why VIN #'s and axle codes are important.
