New truck and lots of work to do!

I got my truck! After looking at a bunch of trucks I decided a '51 F1 was what I wanted, so I went out and got one.
The PO found it in a farmer's field and bought it with the hopes of restoring it, but he was working on a Chevelle at the same time and got bogged down with it.
It's mostly complete - missing the driver's side outer door handle, the tailgate, the speedo, and a couple of pieces of trim (someone put Merc M1 trim on the hood sides).
Both front fenders are rusted in the seams and pretty dented up, but otherwise there's mostly just surface rust. The cab corners, floor, and doors are all really solid. The original wood was even still in the box - well, most of it anyway.
The original flattie looks to be in pretty good shape... gonna tinker with it a little and see if we can't get it running. Spark plugs are clean, no water in the oil. Even if it does run though, I just picked up a 351W and C6 combo that I'm going to put in it - so if anyone near Edmonton wants a good rebuild candidate flathead, let me know!

I plan on rebuilding the stock suspension and brakes but adding power steering. My Dad has a parked '72 F100 with a 9" 3.55 rear end I'm gonna snag. I don't want to drop it down to the ground but I'll lower it a few inches. Attached is a pic of the rear springs, anyone familiar with the extra springs? Was this a factory "heavy duty" option on F1s or something?

(also a pic of the flathead)

Looks like a good starter. Your lucky, the truck looks like it is nearly complete. The 1951-2 parts aren't as plentiful as the 53-56. What is the rear end ratio? That 351W could take the rear out. I'm sure you will get rid of the flathead quick. Enjoy the truck

Good looking truck. It's even in my favorite shade of rust.

PM sent.

Thanks guys. It'll be lots of work, but it will be worth it in the end. Now I just have to find some local suppliers in Alberta so I don't have to pay huge shipping charges!

I'm really curious about the rear springs... does anyone know if that was a factory option, or was that something the original owner did as a modification? It was a farm truck so he may have added the extra springs for strength?

That's the first one I've ever seen like that. Noticed that yesterday when you posted the pics. It could have been an option. I don't know. Maybe if you gave us a shot of the hangers, somebody smarter than me could give you the answer. I cannot get over how clean that firewall is with shiny paint.

It's likely that the extra springs were an option. It's been a while since I looked, but I believe that my 51 Panel truck has the same spring set up.

I see that no one has listed any local suppliers for you. George Moir Antique Parts Ltd is in your area. Stoney Plain Alberta. No website. The phone # is (780) 963-7334. Don't throw out the Merc hood as there is always someone looking for that Mercury trim. It's not a Merc truck per chance??
Good luck with your truck.

Looks good. That rear end from the 72 F100 should work under that truck. It's about the right size. A common trick to lower the rear is mount the rear end on top of the springs instead of under them. Lots of suppliers of kits to do this mod. Hey Llya, are those F2 front fenders? LOL. I think they are.

Maybe only on one side. They look like F1 fenders.
