Where are all the aerostars?
I thought I would find an older aerostar to fix up for hauling back and for from a camp that I have. When I started looking around for one, I discovered that they seem to have disappeared. I don't see them in ads, on car lots, or on the road. Where have they gone? There are plenty of old Ford pickups (I own two) and older Ford cars (I have one). Where are the aerostars?

They're still around, look on craigslist, tons of them there. Also search cars.com. In fact, they seem to be reaching a point where the price of them is at an all time low, even for the occasional one you can find with low mileage. They're a great value and a very unique and capable vehicle.

I work on a town that has a population of about 5,000 people. For some reason, this town is loaded with Aerostars. It could be that the Ford dealer has always had a large presence in this town. Or it could be that the people are frugal. Anyway, since we live in a area that uses lots of salt during the winter, you can guess how some of these look.
I'm on my 4th Aero and it's time to start looking for my 5th. You see them on craigslist quite often, but as was posted, they are getting fewer and fewer.
I know the day is coming when my wife will have to drive something else.

chassis are usually OK, especially if there is PS leak, ATF prevent rust in front area ))) LOL
but rocker panels are usually rusty. anyway all they are easy to repare with welding ore protect with rust bullet, ore other rust ihibiting chemicals. In Lugansk there is no rust problem, but aeros in Moscow are very rusty becouse road solt.

The most common places for rust to start is where water can collect. So the bottoms of rocker and door panels are common places. Also, lower edges of window frames.
Since it's impossible to keep water out of body panels, it's important to make sure the drain holes are clear of obstructions. If there aren't any drain holes in low spots, I would consider drilling some and then covering them with some tough paint, like Rustoleum. In older cars, the factory applied sealants harden and crack, allowing water to get to bare metal, and trapping them there.
Of course, some times even with all these preventive measures, the car still rusts, like if you live in places where the transportation department salts the roads in winter, or you own an AMC of any sort.

I'm not sure, but seems to me there are no AMC cars in Ukraine now, some still run in Russia, generally built in 70-80s, collectioners look for them, but here....
There are Harley Davidson bikes built in 40-s, GAZ AA, GAZ 67/47B, ZIM, Chailka, classic Mustang, rare '56 Moskvich AWD, some Impalas, Caddies, but no AMC....
