thanx for the advice folks, sorry for the delay in response outa town work tends to do that .I 5think i will keep the wires low so as not to make a mess what about the gauges i want to rewire them for 12 volt any advice julie i think you have an article or something i just cant find itt thanx alot

Well, all you need to do is add voltage reducers on th backs of the gauges and retain the OEM gauges and senders.
I used the small individual Runtz reducer on my gas gauge and converted my electric oil and temp gauges to mechanical. But you can use the runtz on the oil and temp too. There's different types of voltage reducers - some do one gauge, some do two some will do all three.
