Teardown part 3

Im making slow progress boys and girls but I aint broke nothin yet! Question for today ,which motor mount bolts do I pull? The ones off the frame or the ones from the mount to the block? When I get to the actual pull, I unbolt the trans,{auto} and do I take the torque convertor bolts loose. ? If you cant tell, this is my first engine pull, its great fun so far! I sure have learned alot this past year on here. Thanks!

Dunno on the mounts, but when you remove the TC nuts push the converter back towards the trans as far as it'll go.

there are actually 3 different ones. cross member to lower motor mount, lower to upper motor mount and motor mount to block. i removed the cross member to lower motor mount because of the ease of access i have with the straight axle and the 4" lift. with the ttb you might wanna unbolt the 2 bolts that connect the lower and upper motor mount.

Rick,
your question is a good one!!!!
here's why:
if you decide to pull the upper mount bolts, you MAY be able to pull the "unit" (engine/tc) up.
BUT if you decide to pull the bolts and leave the mounts (thus making it necessary to lift the engine higher to clear them) then, you may have TC clearance issues.

i guess what i have to offer is this:

PAY HEED TO :LCAM-01XA's ADVICE!!!! in post #2!
notice oreocreaming's advice: "you might wanna unbolt the 2 bolts that connect the lower and upper"

iv never done it,but i understand this advice/experience given.listen and understand this sound reasoning Rick.

you'll have to use judgment Rick.please be careful.
take your time, and this answer will be clear as you go i guess is my answer.
personally, if i didn't have these experts (LCAM/OERO) i would never debate it,and just unbolt two whole lower mount and get it out of the way,if this helps any.

I just did it two different ways ... one truck was done lower to cross member, the other was lower to upper!

The Lower to cross member nuts are easier to get to however the motor is harder to pull.

The Lower to Upper the bolts are harder to get to however it's easier to pull the motor.

Until I find a better way I'll separate between lower and upper!

-Enjoy

well so much for tearing out the interior lol. Had to clean out a spot on the gravel driveway so I didnt have to park in the grass.........didnt want weeds growing up through the floor lol. Had to haul a couple loads of pallets out across a wet wheatfield. Didnt get stuck a single time, and man that field was ROUGH. It woulda shook a chevy apart, and a dodges tranny woulda fell out within the first 10 feet lol. It was rough, but the old ford just chugged right along. AND it started just as quick if not quicker than the new truck. It aint been started in 2 weeks, so I was suprised.
