brake dust on front wheels

I have a 2008 F150 4x4 and noticed that a decent bit of brake dust covers the the front wheels shortly after I clean them. I was wondering if anyone else has problems with excessive brake dust on the front wheels?

Very common problem. Not all 04-08's have this issue, but most do. The easy solution is to swap out your OEM front pads with a set of (fill in the brand name of choice) ceramic pads.

^^ X2! If your running larger wheels & tires (22"-24") you may want to install better rotors (dimpled & sloted) they will "woooooe" you down much faster.

Above posts are best solutions. Another one is to get brake dust shields. They go between your wheel and hub and will not let the brake dust get to the wheel. I have not personally used them, but people I know say they really work. My biggest concern would be the affect they have on brake cooling. Just another thought.

Armor All has a new wheel dust protectant on the market that you spray on the wheel and the dust pretty much slides off of it.

I haven't tried it yet,but might work for yah.

Yeah I got the problem. It takes only a couple weeks for the dust to come on pretty thick. I have heard a lot of guys use akebono brake pads and say they have no dust. I would like to switch to them, but I still got a lot of life left on my duralast metallic pads. And I figure soap and water is cheaper than new pads.

on my Jeep and on my Altima I spray the tires and wheels down with that Purple Power stuff, then wash the rims with the sponge.

The Purple Power or Castrol Superclean works well.I've used it on alloy and painted rims without an issue (COLD RIMS).

Not sure if I'd trust it on aluminum wheels it may discolor them.

I saw that stuff at WalMart, but wasn't sure how well it worked.

I went with the el cheapo pads for my wife's van. Now I've got thick coats of brake dust after just a few days of use. I've been doing what bigunit54 said...soap and water. Might have to break down and get the Armor All.

Put new pads on mine 2 months ago, front left dust is disgusting. Oh to have spent the extra on ceramic. Lesson learned.

I wouldn't use armor all anything on my truck or any other vehicle for that matter. There are better products on the market and not much difference in cost.

If you at least use a semi-metallic pad it will cut the dust way down from organics.
