The battery/charge warning light on my 2000 PSD has recently started to stay on. The alternator and batteries are fairly new and the belts look OK. The charge gauge (or whatever that gauge is called) looks normal (needle is just past the center). Does anyone have any ideas why the light might be staying on?
Get a voltage meter and check the voltage at the battery when the engine is at an idle.. Should be around 14.4 volts .. Sounds like you have a bad alternator or the wiring to the alternator is shorted.
You're right Clint - it was a bad alternator. I just thought it must be something else as I only replaced the alternator 9 months ago (that's NAPA quality for you).
