MSD Distributor Doesnt Fit

I bought a MSD distributor to go in my 1992 f150 5.0l and it is supposed to be a direct fit to my truck. However the plug on the distributor is a rectangular shaped plug and the plug in the harness is circular. after researching the distributor i found that it is the only one that is made for my year motor and that there is no other msd distributor that will fit (according to the people at MSD) . my question is, is there a way to maybe splice it into my harness, possibly using a plug from a mustang (which will fit) and soldering it into my harness on the truck.

i would think so, but im not 100% sure. Youd have to make sure all the wires mated up correctly and with the wires theyre supposed to be with, but im pretty sure it can be done.

Might want to take a minute and look into something like this, might prove easier.

i looked through those a bit and none of them, that i looked at, were for a mustang to f150. Now i didnt look all that hard i just kinda glanced for the moment. is there one that you know of that is specifically for the mustang to f150?

I did a model search for it on one of those sites using your trucks year make model and engine size, claimed it would fit.

The picture wasn't right but said the picture was for illustration purposes only and may not reflect the actual adapter listed, well you know, words to that effect anyway.

But rather then rely on a web based order I'd use the "contact us" and or call them and make sure its what you need.

I picked this one kinda at random that and based on tile, MSD Distributor Wiring Harness - TRU Motorsports International LLC - Your Car and Truck Headquarters!

It sounds like the MSD distributor you have is for an older engine with the TFI module mounted to the distributor. You need one for a remote mount TFI system, like the one they list for a 94-95 mustang 5.0.

X2 on this one. Ford went to remote mount TFI modules on the F-series in '92. You need MSD #8455 not the 8456 they list in the catalog.

i checked out part #8455 on the MSD website. looking at the picture it seems to be correct. funny thing is no one i talked to from msd new that they had another distributor that would fit they kept telling me the one i have is the only one that will fit on my truck.
