I tested the Two Different A/C Heater Core Valves.

I tested the Two Different A/C Heater Core Valves.

And I found that the All Plastic Unit from Motorcraft leaks under low pressure. (By blowing with my mouth)

MOTORCRAFT Part # YG350 {#F87Z18495AA}

When the Vac closes the valve air still escapes when I blow air in the line.

Now the second Unit, the one Bob Riley Sells works like a champ, stops 100% of the hot water going through the heater core. It's well made, even the black part in the photo is made of metal.

MOTORCRAFT Part # YG136 {#D4AH18495BA, D4AZ18495A, D6AH18495AA}

Thanks for the input. I wonder if the plastic one is designed to leak some past? Not sure why but it seems like that is common to only block "most" of the fluid.

I'm pretty sure the first valve is designed that way. That way there's always a small amount of fresh fluid going through the core. Some engineer was probably worried about it corroding if they didn't.

Ball valves are the way to go if you don't live somewhere where the temps swing around a lot. Some day's it super hot here, but by the time I drive home at 11, I want a tiny bit of heat cause its too chilly with the windows all down

I used a brass ball valve from a plumbing supply house for my heater core cut-off.

I installed the manual shut off valve.
Does anyone have a spec for an electric one I could control with a switch from the dash?
It seems for about 2 months in the spring and fall, I need the AC but need some heat to clear the window in the morning.

I have the 4.0 Ranger a/c vacuum acuated valve which works well. You may want to talk with Dieselsite about their a/c products. I think they had an electronic valve

Yeah, except you don't have the option of just flipping a switch from the driver's seat.

If its cool enough that I might need heat I dont turn the valve off... I am hot blooded anyway. Takes alot to make me cold. I rarely use the heater in my truck, as anyone that has road with me can attest.

I wonder if the carling switches everybody has come in vacuum style switches. It would be cool to have control over the valve from in the cab plus be able to move the max a/c damper when the heat is on. I used to do that in my old truck when it got really cold. Why heat the outside air when you can heat up the already warm air from in the cab?
