headliner..glue right to roof???
i have an 88 bronco, and i just painted all the interior metal flat black, my only option for a headliner is to get all the needed crappy trim pieces and repaint them so that the headliner board fits up there .. i dont want to do that, how do you think it will come out if i spray adhesive right to my roof and just stick the fabric up there? i have a shaped roof, so it isnt really flat. do you think the glue will hold enuf so that i can stretch it and push it into the odd spots? anyone else tried this?

Hi Mike - Welcome to FTE.
There's a couple things you may want to consider before doing anything like this. 1st is that the headliner board also is supposed to cover up the insulations. 2nd is that the insulation works for both keeping the heat/cold out and also for sound deadening. You ever been under a tin roof when it rains?
I'm sure if you want to do your headliner the way you mentioned, you could check with a local auto upholstery shop and ask them which glue will work for what you're wanting to do. I don't know if just any old 3m spray glue will hold up to the weather conditions.

I don't see why not. The insullation gets glued directly to the metal roof.
I'd still check with an auto upholstery place to make sure you get the proper glue. If you look at fatfenders post in the '48 forum, you'll see that several different types are mentioned.
You're not going to want it coming loose a year or two down the road. If it does, the material will stretch and you'll be redoing the whole thing again.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Ya know, you can always create a "User Gallery" here and show us your work.
