My alarm is not letting me start my ford expedition 2000. When I try to start it, nothing happens. I do not hear the starter and the alarm does not go off. All the lights in the dash board come on but the SUV will not start. Could someone please tell me how to reset a factory alarm for this model. I was researching the net and it says to push the button underneath the drivers side, but this type of alarm does come with a button that I could press. It only comes with this electronic device that disables the SUV. I could not find any type of button or toggle switch to push underneath the drivers side. Please help.

 

are you sure it is the alarm i had the same problem a few days ago. see if it starts in neutral.

 

Try cleaning your battery connections.

 

I already cleaned the battery and I also tried to start it in neutral but it did not work. I am able to start the SUV from under the hood if I use a screw driver and touch the 2 prongs in the starter. If anyone has had this type of problem, could you please tell me how you were able to solve it. Thanks.

 

If you can start it from the solenoid, I would suspect the neutral safety switch or the ignition switch. It will take a multi-meter or test light to troubleshoot. Do you have access to a wiring diagram

 

I do not have access to any diagram but I can search the internet to see if I can get one. Can you please tell me how I would be able to find out what the problem is. Thanks.

 

Is the Theft light lit up on the dash when you're trying to start it?

 

When I first put in the key, all the lights in the dashboard light up including the Theft light. But once I crank it, it goes away. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem I will greatly appreciate. Thanks.

 

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think if it is a problem was with the alarm the theft light would flash when you were trying to start it. Like hotstang suggested I would suspect the ignition switch or neutral safety switch.

 

I was able to fix the problem. I took my SUV to my local auto parts dealer and they told me that it was the solenoid. I bought the solenoid and put it on and was able to start it without any problems. Thank you all for your reponses.
