Water leaking out of muffler

My 2003 f 150 with the 5.4 ltr engine leaks water from the muffler after shutting down the motor. There is no indication of coolant or oil in it just plain water. What gives with this?

Symptoms do sound quite odd. A basic question for this scenario if I may, mate. Thus: "Is the engine COMPLETELY warmed-up when leak is noted?"

Reason being: clear H2O from a cold engine/cold exhaust system is nothing to sweat (pardon the pun). If the leak's volume is just a drizzle/drip, fret not. It's a natural combustion by-product. However, if it's a stream/pouring-out: pls check your coolant level frequently - there's a slim chance of a possibly-smoked head gasket, which may even just effect 1 cylinder. Maybe pull the plugs & look for signs. 1 odd-looking plug could be the clue here.

As always, hope 'dis helps & G' luck w/it !!

That would sure be irritating, especially at five bucks a gallon up here.
I guess though after passing throught the motor it could be pure enough to drink.

Or Old Style Pilsner.....lol, aside from that, the leak only occurs for about 40 seconds to a minute, and this is when the motor is hot after driving the truck. I'm going to keep an 'eye' on the coolant level, but there appears to not be any anti freeze in the drip. Nor any oil. It is as clear as plain ole water! I just had a thought, dumb as it sounds, we have had a huge amount of rain lately and maybe it is pooling in the box under the liner and takes this opportunity to run out and I only see it dripping of the muffler? I have a canopy back there and maybe I got a leak. I'm going out o look.

Thanks a lot for your input,....yuh got me thinking!

I don't think its anything serious. Water is a normal combustion byproduct.

if you still have your catalytic converters then the water is an indication that they are doing their job.

the catalytic converters convert some of the engine exhaust into water (amongst other chemical reactions) to reduce emissions so you will see water leaking out the exhaust. most of the time the exhaust heat turns it into steam so you don't notice it, but will turn to water when the temps are low enough.

it is a pretty normal occurance. look at most cars when you first start them and you will notice water dripping from the exhaust.
