If you do it properly; and by properly, I mean cleaning, lightly sanding, priming, then painting; it shouldn't come off.
I just saw a TV commercial for the Krylon Fusion plastic paint, and it looked interesting.

Ive got a 1979 lariat f-150 with red and white door panels who can i get to restore the door panel and inserts ?? would like the seat also red and white..
