lean 460 melting plug boots

New here and could use some help.

Have 97 f350 with 460 (no MAF) that's running lean and creating so much heat from the exhaust that the plug boots are melting and feels like it's only running on 2 cylinders. Had head gaskets done when I noticed white smoke but still had power at that time. After a few hundred miles ex. gaskets went and it's been down hill ever since. Any idea what could be wrong? Appreciate any help.

You either have a massive vaccum leak or the timimg is way late. How hot is coolant running.

Not sure of the coolant temp but the engine itself doesn't seem to run hot just the exhaust is very high.

Check your fuel pressure, you might have a weak pump or regulator.

But that lean hsould be throwing a code on a 97

late cam timing or ignition timing will cause the combustion to occor in the exh instead of inside the engine. this is the main cause of HighHEAT in the exh. You might want to check the roll pin on the distubtor gear.
I'd bet this condition didn't happen over time but all at once.

You're right broncoman, it did seem to happen over night and it did have a broken roll pin! Replaced the pin, set the timing and it seems to be running normal. Thanks for the help.
