I believe on some of them you have to pull the axle shaft

On most full floating axles, you need to remove the axle, then the hub and drum as an assembly to access the brakes.

On the 10.25, the drum is outboard of the hub and can be removed, leaving the hub in place.

Short lining will always go toward the front.
