Question 302, 5.0 XXX roller short block...

Here I go again....flat tappet or roller..........

Dammit.....thought I had it ALL figured out......!

Build a killa flat tappet motor, most likely hydraulic, for my '56 Effie....

THEN...I run accross this local dude offerin' up this...

"302, 5.0 XXX roller short block, complete"...asking...$100.00

No pic's yet...it IS disassembled....transport will be easy...

Still waitin' on casting numbers and an exact description of "complete" shortblock...

Anyway....I don't know much (read;anything) about roller motors from
a first-hand expierence point of view as I have never rebuilt one...

I understand the choices are greater as far as cams go with the rollers
but ya just gotta love a nasty ol' flat tappet screamer!!!!

I know...I know.........hey...flat's-where-it's-at......

Soooooooo....what about this block....stilll waiting to hear back about
the rest of the parts....

Thanks...

It is common for the roller blocks(1987/E7TE and up) to have "XXX" or "YYY" cast into the side of the lifter valley, I'm not sure it has any real significance or meaning but it is usually found on these blocks. My '89/E9 roller block has "XXX" on it...

I wish I'd gotten a roller block when I built the 351 going into my pickup. Definitely going roller when I build up a 302 to go into the Bronco. There's just no really good reason not to.

you do not have to run a roller cam in a roller block.
