I'm planning on getting one as well. If I understand right, these are made for the '94 -'96 trucks? I asked the local dealer for the dark blue CPS and they tried to sell me the "new and improved" grey one.

Does anyone have any concern over using them in 99 to 03 trucks since the updated new blue CPS was apparently designed for 94 to 96? I have the grey unit installed in my truck now for about a year with no issue and the engine runs and starts fine. I am wanting to get a spare before the summer camping season starts. Does Ford and International endorse the new dark blue CPS for 99 to 03 7.3 install as well?

Personally I am just sticking with the old school 99-03 International black ones until I can't find them anymore.

Not being too familiar with all the CPS recall history, can someone let me know what was wrong with the original Black units to begin with and why Ford went to an updated grey unit? Seems like the best course of action for a top running motor is to use a black unit that Ford says should really be replaced by a grey? Appreciate any info. Looking for a spare and not sure if I should be looking for new blue, black or grey.

The original black ones were prone to fail, the gray ones were supposed to be better but haven't had much success. I might try this new blue one, for the price why not. I have a NIB IH black CPS that I'm too scared to use 'cuz it was so dang expensive!

Ok, does Ford/IH say the new blue ones are blessed for use with 99 to 03 or are they really only for the earlier 7.3's usage and use them at your own risk anywhere else? Or, is a CPS a CPS...updated unit is the same for 99 to 03 and older 7.3s?

The big difference is the metal used for the contacts. If you use a new blue one in a 99-03 there is a risk of corrosion between the contacts. Squirt some dielectric grease in there and motor on! Functionally the CPS is the same.

Ok then. I will order one up as a spare or just replace my grey and use it as a spare. Just smear a little dielectric grease on the actual 3 contact/probes and snap together?

Yahtzee! Make sure the grease will get to the contacts and isn't just in the connector.

Definately curious about thier response to the updated blue CPS since it seems Ford shops are still pushing the grey unit for 99 to 03. I am interested to see if anyone there can point to any specific reason why they are still selling the grey unit to the 99 thru 03 truck owners.
