I am trying to remove steering slop in a 1991 F150 4X4 Lariat XLT with 5 L motor 5sp. I can move the steering wheel back and forth quote a bit while driving.

I read about an adjustment on top of the pump? I checked the tie rod ends ant they were good.

There is an adjustment nut on top of the gear box, but unless you know what you're doing, don't screw with it. Taking it to an alignment shop is your best bet to have it done right.
