What Oil to Use 88 F250 7.3L

What oil should I use in this engine? Owners manual says 10w-30 API SF/CD for under 32F and 30w API SF/CD for over 32F. I can't find any API SF/CD at the usual auto parts houses. All I find is API SM. Thanks.....

I use 15-40 rotella, mainly because it is available everywhere.

I run the 15-40 delo for the same reason
any parts store will have 15-40 with the diesel formula kinada hard to find 10-30 that meets the specs

Delo 400LE 15W40 oil from Walmart only. You buy it at any other retail store, you're getting hosed unless it's on sale.

API CD was superseded by API CF-4, CH-4, and CI-4. API CJ-4 can be used where the previous 3 service categories were specified.

If your owner's manual calls for a 30-weight oil (SAE 30, 10W-30), I would stick with it. However, you can also safely use 0W-30 and 5W-30 Heavy Duty Engine Oils as well.

If you have trouble finding 30-weight oils at parts or department stores, you should still be able to pick up a case from a local dealer.

I run been running since new Valvoline 15W40 All Fleet year round.

I buy it in a case of 12 quarts. So I always have an extra 2 quarts for down the road.

I always run the motrocraft 15-40 diesel oil from wally world. It comes in the 5quart jug for around $11-12 bucks. I noticed that my 6.9 will eat the rotella at the rate of about 1 quart every 500 miles. I usually only add 2 quarts of the motorcraft oil everty 2500 miles.

You can still buy API CD and CE rated oils.

The CF-4, CH-4, CI-4 and CJ-4 oils have extra antifoaming agents to deal with the HPOP and HEUI injectors in the more modern diesels.
CD and CE oils foam to much when you have oil pressures as high as Power Strokes run to fire the injectors.

Those addatives will not hurt the IDI engine, but they aren't needed either.

I know a lot of guys that run this oil or that oil.
About one oil change a year, they switch to Rotella.
They all claim the Rotella sure cleans out the engine.

Right now I am running Mobil Delvac 15W-40 in my IDI till I get my oil leak fixed.
Then it will go back to synthetic.

Stroke is about due for a change, and I may try Rotella in it.

I run wallyworld brand 15w40 and I haven't had any issues. Ran Rotella for a while till I discovered the wallyworld stuff was cheaper, and seems to work fine.
Maybe I'm just cheap, but just like the food I buy, generic is basically the same thing, just without the big brand cost.

IDI is still fine, just used it to tow my sons truck home Thursday night.

Since it is in need of some rust control, now the Stroke gives me transportation while I have it apart this summer.

My lower radiator support is about gone after years of plowing, and I have not found one worth buying.
So now I can cut it up and rebuild it without having to worry about getting it all back together so I can drive on Monday morning.

Front cab mounts are also getting in bad shape, so I think I will pull the cab to fix them.
That was out of the question when I only had two days to take it apart, fix them and get it back together.

So it is not going anywhere, and will finally get some much needed TLC for the body.
It's still going to be my serious work truck for the heavy towing and hauling.

As for the Stroke, still slow as a snail, but I did buy a 3" downpipe and 4" exhaust that should help it a little.
Trying to figure out how to do something about the air intake system, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Put a 4" exhaust 45 degree elbow pipe on the end of the flexible rubber intake tube. Buy a few NAPA 6637 filters from RiffRaff Diesel and install it. Yeah yeah, open filter. You'll like what it does, especially with that exhaust setup. I need the same compressor wheel your Stroke has in my Stroke.
