Grinding or rubbing noise from parking brakes?
My truck was making a very distinct grinding/popping noises from the left side.
Took it to the shop since I needed new tires and asked them to check it out. Shop mentioned the rear drums were very rusty and turned them. After about a week the grinding / popping noise is slowly coming back and fairly consistent.
To me it sounds like there is a rubbing or small grinding noise coming from the parking brakes. Has anybody experienced something like this? Are the shoes self adjusting when you drive in reverse?
How topugh of a job is it to rebuild the parking brakes if this is the case?
Thanks

The problem is they probably turned your brake rotors but didn't turn the inside parking brake area, if that can even be done. I did the rear emergency brakes on our Expy and one of the E brake pads got hung up inside and caused havoc. Simple job but you might just want to get new rotors.

folsomf250, I'm just taking a stab at it, my wife was noticing a like shh shh noise then about two days later(around town taking the kids to school jaunts) a loud pop when turning. Crazy as it sounds, the emergency brake bound up so bad that it somehow locked that side while driving and I'm not sure it could happen but enough I think it broke one of my spider gears in the rear, I'm assuming thats what happen because I had to change the spiders out and replace new Ebrake pads and hardware then inspection time was next, got new rotors. Maybe somebody will chime in, maybe an adjustment on the E-brake cable. I know how to do it on a Expy but never had mine torn apart to see how ours are. Here's a bump for other suggestions, good luck.

have a 05 f350 lariat that has had rear brake issues. parking brake backing plates rotted out and shoe hardware all fell apart inside and chewed everything up. ford wants almost $200 per side for replacement parts. called customer service trying to get help. still waiting. never had avehicle rot out backing plates in my life.
