First what engine do you have now? Check your engine mounts and perches...and also what type of transmission do you have? Keeping it or replacing it as well?

I just did almost the same thing...I put a 351W in my 78, (had a 351M front sump). I was told by lots of people I would have to change my oil pan to a front sump...never could get a clear answer as to what would work (pan wise), so I tried it...guess what it worked. Have about 3" clearance with the rear sump pump 351W. Don't know if that will be the case in your situation...but just yesterday I put mine in...Hope it helps...Everyone on here gives great advise and are SUPER HELPFUL! The best place for info you will find! Use it!

I just swapped, over the weekend, a 351m w/ the front sump to a 400 with a rear sump in my 78. No problems at all!! Its actually alot better because now when I change the oil it won't run out all over the x-member. No clearance issues at all.
