Charge indicator Light 66 F100

My charge Indicator light does not come on. It has a yellow-black and a black-green wires the go to the light.I check the voltage and I am getting 12volts on the black green as well as the yellow black wire, where the key is turn on and when truck is running. The wiring diagram manual that I got from DC (Jim Osborn) only shows a ammeter gauge and not lights. The cab was removed before I got the truck and the wiring has been a nightmare. Does anyone know where the yellow-black and the black green wires go for the charge indicator? Or does anyone know of a better wiring manual? The only way I know it should work, is the light get voltage when the key is on and on startup the power goes off the light.

I just search the forum and I think the wires on the alternator may be wired wrong. William if you are out there please help me out. Or anyone as to the right wire to the right Post on the alternator.

Thank for any help

Jeff

Jeff, I am not sure what you are wanting, but I don't think the light comes on, if you are thinking like the new vehicles on startup.

Maybe someone else can supply more detail.

John, Thank you for that thought. I think you just fixed my truck.

It should come on when the ignition is in the ACC position and the ON position. ON position when the truck dies and the key is still in the ignition.

So back to my question, Does anyone know where to hook up the two Charge indicator wires? or have a wiring diagram for a 66 f100 352 that shows charge light hookup?

Thanks

I can tell you right off the bat that the black wire with green tracer (30B) would seem to be spliced into another wire, also black/green that then has one connection to the fuse panel and one to the ignition. This is what ticks me off about the 65 manual which has no schematics. My car manuals are full of schematics and I am looking at the 67 Ford manual. The yellow/black wire in both my 67 and 68 Ford manuals goes to an assembly (14401) which looks like a plug to me. It joins at the plug with a green/red wire which 1. runs out the firewall in the 14405 plug to the voltage regulator/alternator wire loom and 2. runs into a resistor and last a connection that joins with the black/green wire to both connect together on the ignition. This makes sense since the charging circuit is a loop.

When the ignition switch is closed power runs through the light and the resistor, to the voltage regulator contacts, to the field and on goes the light. When the alternator builds up enough voltage to close the field relay contacts, full voltage is applied to the field and the light goes out.

Thanks Mike, Without a manual you just are guessing. I will try to follow what you said. Where can I get a manual that has a good wiring diagram? I have the one on cd, but it has no diagram. I've have look all over for a better manual, but nothing.

Jay, I have the cd set and it does talk about the charge indicator, but no wiring diagram. What Mike said and what the manual on cd says, I hope to get it right.

Thanks

I can't find a diagram either, but I know that one wire of the charge indicator light goes to the "I" terminal on the regulator. From what you said, I'm guessing that the other wire to the indicator light is from a 12v source (key on). If this is true, the light should come on when the "I" terminal is grounded internally by the regulator. If the light is not coming on, I'd first check the bulb, the check the connection from the "I" terminal to the light.

Keep us posted on what you find out.

If all the wires are intact and connected then by all means check the bulb first...
