rpm gauge installation 1985 f150 4 speed manual

hi I am trying to install a rpm gauge in my truck, I have the power, ground and dash light wires all attached, what I cant get is wear to hook up the wire that receives the tack signal, the truck did not have a stock tack and this is the first one that has ever (attempted) installed. any help is appreciated, pictures would be great

there is my engine (it is cleaner now)
I can get more pics no problem if more are needed.

Look at the connector for the coil, there should be a spot labeled "Test/tach". Green wire for a tach goes there.

I see the coil in the picture. On the dist cap find the center blue wire. Run your hand along it and it is plugged into the square coil. On the coil there are two small wires. One of those is where the tach wire will go. Is one of them green/black?

Sorry, I believe it should be green/yellow.

Looks like the wire towards the front of the truck on the coil is the green(negative side of the coil) which is the one you want.

yes the wire is green/yellow, the other one is brown.
do I just cut the green one expose the wire and splice in the green tack wire then solder and heat shrink tube and electrical tape.

the instructions say i then have to set the tack.
http://www.equus.com/Content/Support...-0012.revB.pdf
it is a 6 cylinder so do i set it to the 6 cylinder setting (3000 rpm) or am I setting it to the coil on plug (500rpm) or am i setting it to the 3rd option (I dont think it is this one so I wont bother)
it is on page 2 if you dont understand what I am asking.

thanks all so much, this is a big help.

Yes, splice the wire in just like you described. If you have a six, program the tach for a six.
