Question Oil filter relocation kit

Hello,

Have anyone of you put one those oil filter relocation kits on your 4.9L/300CID. If so does it work well? Will it affect oil pressure? Was the instalation difficult? Thank you for your time.

I haven't put one on, but i'm just kinda wondering why you'd want to. As it is, that filter is probably the easiest thing in the world to get to. But as for them working well, sure. There are tons of them out there and are used in just about every form of racing and/or towing. If you want/need one, I don't think there is much to worry about.

I actually love changing my oil filter since it's so easy and nothing much in the way.

I would like to get one of these things for three reasons. Reason#1: I am short and I hate standing on the bumper to get to the filter. Reason#2: I hate removing the filter from the bottom because I allways manage to drop the thing and get oil all over the car port. Reason#3: My girlfriend & the land lord get pissed when I get oil all over the car port. So in other words I want to make this opperation as clean and trouble free as posible in order to simplify my life. Also please do not tell me to pay to have someone do an LOF for me.

I didn't think it was possible to get it from above.LOL

Why not just lay down some news paper or old towels when changing it if you make such a mess?

heh, I didn't think you could do it from above either

Where were you planning on putting your filter that would make less of a mess when you change it?

Yeah you sure can get to it from the top. As a matter of fact it is easier to do it that way than from the bottom, mainly because the crossmember and the steering linkage get in the way (read: no good way to get the filter out from the bottom without dropping it.). I'm going to mount the filter right next to the to the windshield washer tank so I can convienlently reach it when I'm just itching to change my oil at some odd place and time. That is of course if one of y'all would tell me if the kit is worth a darn.

Just thinking, if you move the filter too far, maybe the oil will take longer to get to the top end on startup and especially after a change. Not sure, just some things to consider.

I dont think they cause problems, I've just never heard of one for a 300 but I guess they are out there. My friends 1990 chebbie S10 4x4 with the 4.3L V6 had a remote oil filter up by the headlight from the factory because a block mounted filter would hit the front driveshaft, he would always fill his filter up and crank it up with no problems.

The 300 shares its oil filter with damn near all Ford V8's. So anything that'd fit a 302 or 351 (they all use FL1-A) will fit your 300.

I still don't see the point, my 300ci has got to be the easiest filter to change.

I am planning on running remote filters both on my new engine, and the 300-6TT. But I am running the dual remotes, with a cooler. I am doing it just to get the dual filters, for higher flow, and better filtration. Be sure to mount it with the adaptor above the filter, so the filter hangs down, and also fill the filter before you install it. I would highly recomend using a Motorcraft filter, as they have a better anti-drainback valve.

If you are going to put the filters in so that the inlet holes face upwards why would you need a anti drainback valve?

Because there's still siphon pressure that could drain them at least partially, but all FL1A-equivalent filters have that valve built in.

You can get the parts you need from Jeg's (free shipping), Summit, or probably Ford Racing.
