Dana 70 Rear Axle Tag numbers needed
I have a 1984 F350 4x4 Crewcab and one of the rear axle retaining bolts broke. The retaining bolts are the bolts used to attach the axle shaft to the hub. The rear on this truck has no tag and Ford cannot lookup the part without a tag number. I know that all of the Dana 70 rears from 1981 to 1987 use the same retaining bolts but without the tag number, I am SOL. I would really appreciate it if someone who has an F250, F350, E250 or E350, from 1981 through 1987, could post all of the numbers from the steel tag which is bolted to the rear differential of their truck. I can use that information to get the bolt from Ford. If you do post the tag number from your truck rear, the rear must be a full floating rear and I need all of the numbers from the tag. One set of numbers is the Ford number and the other set of numbers is the Dana part number. The tag is attached with 2 bolts on the rear jackpot cover.
Thanks in advance!

You can find a sample tag here:
And you can probably look up the PN yourself on that site or one of these:

Thanks. I have visited each of those sites and the only thing of help is the chilton site which does list the old part number for the axle retaining bolt. But, Ford cannot cross reference that part number so I am still hosed. (The other sites don't list the axleshaft retaining bolt as an available part)
Isn't there someone out there with a 1981-1987 F250 or F350 who can take a minute or two to send me information from the tag on their truck's rearend coverplate? If it's an F250, it has got to have the fullfloating rear.
thanks,
ron

This bolt broke as I was slightly tightening it with a hand wrench in preparation for torquing it to 45 ft lbs. I didn't even have 5 ft lbs of torque on it when it broke. I am sure it broke because some bozo, who worked on the truck before me, overtorqued it. If I buy a used bolt, I have no way of telling whether or not it too has been overtorqued.
As for the tag, none of the junkyards around here will let me into their yards. I guess we have lawyers to thank for that. It will cost me 5 bucks and a Saturday morning to have somebody at a yard write down the tag info for me. I was hoping that somebody here would have the info readily available.
