Cruise Control fuse?

Hello - On my 03 F250 TD truck I had the following happen:

Horn started going off by itself. When this happened, I'd push on the airbag and it would quit. It did this 2-3 times in a 3 hour period so I pulled the horn fuse. That silenced the horn, but it also killed the cruise control. Today, I had the horn fixed..... To pull the airbag was going to be pretty expensive so I had my mechanic just put a horn button on the dash. Looks cheesy, but it does work. I figured that the cruise was tied to the horn fuse and that when the fuse as replaced the cruise would work again. That didn't happen. So out came the owners manual to see which fuse works the CC. There is no listing for a CC fuse. So I guess my question has three parts.

1. Which fuse protects the CC on my truck?

2. Is there any reason that bypassing the OEM horn button on the airbag would disable the CC?

3. The CC problem is completely un-related to the horn problem. In which case we're back to question #1.

Thanks

David Killeen

I have a f250 that had the steering gearbox broken and alllowed the steering wheel to spin without stopping. subsequently it broke the clockspring behind the steering wheel and this kept the horn, cc, and the steering mounted control,s to stop working. i replaced all te fuses and did not find one that was labeled as cc. anyway i still have not fixed the clocksprinf but my mechanic tells me that is probably the culprit. you have to remove the airbag and steering wheel to get to it . it not too hard to D.I.Y. just remove the 2 screws behind the steering wheel there should be some covers pry them off and the screws are right behind that. this will release your airbag. ( just remeber to unplug your battery yoiu dont want it going off in you face) then disconnect the airbag, place it aside and remove the steering wheel. it should be a round plastic with wires attached to it and then to your harness. this is the clockspring. it has a ribbon cable inside that wears down and could become torn or disconnected. I would think that this is what is going on with your truck. but dont take my word for it get a second opinion from a mechanic. this solved my problem though. good luck

The same circuit that feeds the horn switch also feeds the speed control switches, so if your "mechanic" messed with the horn circuits, he also messed with the speed control circuits. Without knowing exactly what he did, everyone here will just be speculating.

You could have bad horn switches, a bad clock spring, or chafed wiring somewhere.

BTW, it takes a few minutes, tops, to remove the airbag.

Find a new mechanic.
