soft brake pedal

I have a 2005 5.4 and must say I love my truck and this web site, which I have been using for several years with great success resolving any of my mechanical issues with my fords. Now for the bad news the brake problem is with my wifes 2005 monty carlo .I know, but thats what made mother happy. The brake pedal only is soft the first time you apply the brakes after the car sits .Then appears to be fine.I have tried the Chev
forum and to say the least it is a piece of s--t.compared to this one.I would greatly appreciate any help.

ps WIFES NEXT VECHICLE WILL BE A FORD HELL OR HIGH WATER!!!!!

I only ever owned one car with ABS and that was a GM one but never gave any trouble so I know little about ABS brakes.
However it is good practice to flush new brake fluid through the system every couple of years. If not already done I would try that.

Sounds like there is air in the system- try bleeding the brakes, if not begin testing the master brake cyclinder & the power booster
