I am trying to decided whether to go with a fiberglass body or metal body. I would love to find an Arizona body to New Mexico that is in good shape and go metal. I would have $3500.00 plus in a fiberglass body so if I could find a metal body with a junk engine and rear end that some one was getting rid of that would be perfect.
There are trucks for sale in pretty darn good shape around here, '51/'52, in complete condition for around $1,500 - $2,500. I think you'll find even in southern NM and in AZ that they still rust in "the usual places", if they were driven on dirt/sand roads -- which is what there was well into the '60's. They don't rust as bad, necessarily, but I bought a front clip down at the border a long time ago, from a boneyard near Las Cruces, and it still had paper-thin steel at the reinforcement. That place is about as dry as a popcorn fart, so if it happens there, it will happen anywhere. Compared to a northern truck the rest will be better, for sure.
