Fuel tank Rock auto part #s

I been looking at the posts for the 33 gallon bronco tank, My front tank dont work, I have no idea why soon as i flip the switch my truck dies out like not getting any fuel, but theres plenty in the tank, My rear one works but the sending unit is shot so i been running off the rear tank for a couple years and its a pain with a small tank and not knowing how much fuel i really have, i was thinking of taking the front and rear tanks off and just putting a single bronco tank in, On the frame rail near the front tank there in some contramption that the fuel lines go into, what is that? I was looking for the Part numbers for the bigger tank and the sending unit and straps, but wanted your guys help so i didnt order the wrong stuff, Unless you think might be easier to fix the 2 tanks? i got a dump truck so its easy for me the get to the tanks also.

Device on the frame rail is the fuel selector valve. There is a little motor in there and it selects which tank is used. It also switches the fuel level sending devices. The actual switch in the cab only controls the motor.

I've never done it but I've been told if you have someone switch tanks in the cab while you are under the truck you should be able to hear that motor. If not it's quite possible the unit is bad. Also the motor is protected by fuse #8 so check it also..

The deal that switches the tanks under the truck is probably all thats bad.
I dont 100% undersatnd how it works.
but it just directs which way the fuel comes and goes back too.
That is most likely your problem, the actuator goes bad, so your stuck on your rear tank, but when it switches its not pulling fuel for some reason, so i duno what that deal is.

Don't bother with the 33 gallon Bronco tank, go right to the 38 gallon replacement, F26E at Rock Auto.

38 gallon tank

Jim i like the idea of the 33 gal cause the way it looks from ur writeup is that the sending unit fits right in the bronco tank and theres really no major mods and the pickup lines dont need to be changed, When you did this do the fuel hoses snap right on, And what kind of splicing did you heve to do for the sending unit to work, Im not worried abt the 5 gallon loss.

both tanks have to modify the senders, the 38 gallon is a direct fit for the hole, you just have to lengthen the piuckup and float

I replied to your email.
I see now you may be talking about the F-350 in your avatar?
Those have a much narrower frame than the other F-series, make sure a Bronco tank will even fit in your frame, a 38 WILL NOT. I'll bet the Bronco won't either, I can measure mine if you need, let me know.
