Disabling interior lights/running board lights

When we camp we like to leave a door or the hatch open and sometimes for quite a while. One thing I noticed after getting the '00 Expy in October is the interior lights and RB lights will stay illuminated if this is done. Is the only solution to pull a fuse? I can't beleive there is no switch to turn these off. I'm sure many of a batteries have succummed to this horrible design. tks

Have you tried turning the dimmer on the dash down all the way to see if it clicks and turns the interior lights off?

From your owners manual:

The inside lights will not turn off if:
• they have been turned on with the dimmer control or
• any door is open.
The battery save feature will turn off the interior lights 45 minutes after the last door is closed, even if the dimmer control is on.

The only way to turn these off short of yanking all the wires, is either wait 45 minutes for the battery save feature to kick in, or pull the fuse. If you don't have your owners manual, it can be found here which will show you the particular fuse and location. https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...ls/results.asp I agree with you, not a very good design.

Somewhere on here is a thread on how to install a toggle switch to turn off the lights. I agree that someone dropped the ball on the design. Until I finally install my switch I found you can leave the back glass open and push the latch closed with your finger. Just remember to turn the handle and release it before you try to close it...I can only imagine how much the glass costs!!
