Well.. detuning in the sense of a bit less ignition advance compared to what it would take with higher octane fuel.

Like you I'm thinking that combo would run fine on whatever grade fuel he wanted to use, I don't seem to have any problem pushing 40deg total advance on the 9.1 motors I have with 87 octane, it's all about the combo and tune
