off road edition?

my 96 f250 has a factory sticker on the back stating its a "4X4 off road edition". it seemed to be about 3 or 4 inches taller than an f150 that i figured was because it is a 250 but while checking the rear diff oil i noticed some factory looking steel lift blocks on the rear springpacks. was the "off road " package one with a small factory lift?

All of these 4x4 trucks have small lift blocks in the rear. For the most part these accessory packages were mostly trim and badges but could have included different tires and gearing.

It is my understanding that the "4x4 Offroad" package included skid plates and offroad gas shocks. And two decals.

For sure on the skid plates. My buddy has a 93 f350 4x4 without the off road sticker, and it has no skid plates. My 94 f250 4x4 has the sticker, and has skid plates. I've noticed the same trend on other trucks that I've seen. As far as the shocks go, I don't think it really matters at this point, they should have been replaced by now... I've put quite a few deep gashes in the bottom of my skid plates though.

It is my understanding that the sway bars were only part of the handling or trailering package.

The stabilizer bars hurt the articulation of the the axles off road. Thats why many offroaders have disconnects on their stabilizer bar links.

the Off Road package was different gears, tires, and stickers. Neither one of my 95 F150s came with skid plates, and they both say 4x4 off road on the box, same goes with my buddys 91 F150. Skid plates were an extra option.

Well I know that every 4x4 off road F150 I have seen had quad front shocks, different shocks, skid plates, and sway bars.

I think all the off road packages come with the handling package.

The skid plates are over the transmission and the front fuel tank.

You are right. The Offroad package does include the stabilizer bars and the skid plates. Take a look at this 95 F series dealer brochure.

The options on these trucks are confusing- mine has the "handling package" on it (at least that's what the spec sheet I got direct from Ford, when I sent the VIN number, says), but it doesn't have swaybars.

Anyway, all 4WD F250's had a 2.5" block in the back of them and F350's had a 4" block. My truck had the fuel tank and transfer case skidplates originally, although the PO pitched the rear tank skidplate (he said it made the rear tank rust out), and I took off the front tank skidplate for pretty much the same reason. I still have it, just not sure if I still want to use it. Doesn't say anything about "off road" edition though, maybe because it's a diesel.

My dad bought a new '94 SuperCab when I was in the first grade. For some reason, at the age of 21, I still have the '94 F-Series book/brochure you get from the dealer. It has some info ya'll might find interesting...

Skid plates are optional on all 4WD models.

The Off-Road Package (4X4) is said to include: Skid plates, stabilizer bar, and 4X4 off-road decal (Styleside.)

The Camper Package and Trailer Tow Package includes: Super enginge cooling, trailer wiring harness, heavy duty turn signal flashers, handling package, and heavy duty battery.

The Heavy Duty Front Suspension Package (4X4): Heavy duty front springs(3,800 lbs. GAWR) heavy duty shock absorbers, minimum 3.55 rear axle ratio, and heavy duty frame.

The Heavy Duty Rear Suspension Package: Heavy duty shock absorbers(4X4) and 400lbs. nominal auxiliary rear springs.

The Handling Package: Stabilizer bars, heavy duty front springs(4X2 Camper Package only) and heavy duty shock absorbers(4X4- quad front on Regular Cab.)

Thats pretty much word for word off the packages and options page.
