Motor Oil Capacity for a 223 ?
My 54 F100 came with a half assembled 223 and a second parts motor which was also mostly in pieces. Both oil pans were off. The one I used for the rebuild has a deeper sump than the other. How do I know the oil capacity? I only have one dipstick and not sure which motor it came from. Hopefully the dipsticks were the same. My 54 manual says 6 quarts with filter. Any ideas? Thanks.

Under the heading of “all equations have two ends”, six quarts is probably adequate so for now this becomes a dipstick problem. Change filter, fill the engine, run, let sit, take the dipstick you hate the most, grind a nick in the side at full and another proportionally dimensionally mathematically scientifically calculated from old marks at “add one qt” (read wild *** guess). Removing the old indicator marks is a no cost option.
