yes you can but you really should install a pyro so you dont melt your motor down. also if you dont have a turbo you really need to do the exhaust and some type of intake, which you should do regardless but if you dont do it on a n/a motor its a waste.
thanks.Sorry for my ignorince but what is a pyro I'm sure I can put one in if I know what to get also I'm planing on 4 inching the exaust but what is your suggestion for air intake systems.
A pyro is an egt or exhaust gas temperature guage. I think it basically lets you know how hot your motor is running , more fuel = more heat. You should keep your eye out for a second hand turbo. I have the banks kit on mine and it runs awesome.
Ok sounds simple. So sounds like I need a combonation of high air flow system free flowing exaust and then I can maybe turn up my pump.
Thanks.I would be interested in a turbo if anybody knows about one.
what i have done as well as other is run a home made ram air, take some 4" flex dryer tubing and run it down infront of the grill. i had to cut away to make some room. if you live in the mountains or do any towing you should really get a pyro before you touch the pump.
Hey I just got my 7.3 5 speed put in in place of a 460 auto I was wondering what to do about the electric fuel pumps in my old 460 tanks its an 86 and my diesel has a manual pump on the moter its an 89 but still manual, can I suck through the electric ones or do I have a problem.I'm nor very smart I'm having a lot of fun with all of the wireing on it from the ingnition to the starter selonoid.
Thanks
I have the pumps still in my tanks too. I have bypassed them by unplugging the fuel line in the tanks and running a fuel line down beside the pump . I cut the wires that give power to the fuel pump but kept the wires that run to the fuel guage. I now have an electric pump outside the tank. Seems to work fine.
Easier to replace when it craps itself too.
Hey I located a turbo charger by quality auto parts it is used but they said it has been tested heres the catch they said it is an OEM part and it came off of an 1989 f250 I questioned them saying that ford never put a turbo in that year they swear it came off that year as oem?any ideas
sounds like they have there years confused, unless someone took one off of an engine and moved it to the 89. bout the only way i can see that being true... may be an oem part, but not an 89 oem.
The pumps should be low pressure for a carbed 460. They run about 7-9 psi and should work with the diesel. I still run the high pressure pump in my Bronco but have a bypass pressure regulator on the firewall.
