Sho v8

Has anyone put the 3.4L v8 from a sho taurus in their Ranger/B-series? What tranny would you use? It might be fun.

As the V8 is a transverse engine, wouldn't that be pretty much an impossible swap?

I have know idea. I don't see why you couldn't turn it. It might cost a lot though to come up with something to make it work. I was just curious.

There is no such thing as a transverse V8, transverse refers to the way it mounted in the car, not to the engine itself. It would be an interesting project. With the right bellhousing you can match it to your stock trans. You will need to rewire the truck to use the SHO computer and sensors. A lot of the stuff is the same, so you could use the stock MAF, etc. You may also need to reprogram the computer, plug you would need to do a custom intake and exhaust system. Doable, but time consuming and expensive. A supercharger I would think would be a bigger bang for the buck. On an absolute scale, the SHO would be better though.

You can turn the motor but I think the tranny situation would be impossible unless you could find a rear wheel drive application for that motor and I don't think one exists. Its a compact motor so I don't think room would be an issue.

Oh, hey you could make your Ranger a front wheel Drive, Yeah!!!

That's soo cool, dude,

Or, hey we could cut the back off a Taurus and make room for a ranger bed, That's cool too.

Maybe Advanced Adapters has one for 3.4 V8 to RWD transmissions?, worth a shot.

That should be a problem. The SHO mounts to the same transmission as the 3.0L V6, which is the same 3.0L used in the Ranger. So all you need is the bellhousing from a 3.0L and it should work for the SHO too.
