You mean 7.5L (a.k.a 460 CI gasoline engine) or 5.8L (a.k.a 351W gas engine)?

Could be either, if a wire harness with a connector plugs into the alternator thru the casing it is a internal. If the back of the alternator has a little silver or black box mounted with two screws that the wire harness plugs into, then it is external.

Wouldn't the external regulator setup have the regulator mounted on the passenger side fender, near the battery, like the earlier 80s trucks? That's how it is on mine. Has a multi-pin connector that plugs into the fender-mounted regulator, and then there are three or four eyelet and clip-on connectors at the alternator.

You're right, it is on the pass inner fender, I only had a pic of the external VR. Looked like it mounted to the back of the alt.....

Oh well, I think he has an internal, since my last post, haven't heard anymore about it.

Your truck should have an external voltage regulator that is mounted on the fender wall.
