It seemed like a simple enough problem. But it was intermittent so I had to wait till it popped up again. Now it hasn't started in a few days.

Turn key and the starter turns over without hesitation but the engine won't fire up. The starter is obviously fine but I double checked the battery. 12.6v and load tester confirmed that it has strong cranking amps.

My first guesses are no/weak fuel or no/ weak spark. Figured spark was the easiest thing to rule out, so I started there. I pull the electrical connector off the numbers 8 coil. Tested it with my cheap but loyal multimeter, and found I'm not getting any power to the coil. I was hoping the problem was a relay or fuse, but nothing it clearly marked as ignition coils. So I pulled the wiper relay and tried it in each of the other relay plugs. Nothing. Then I went through the fuses, one by one, and still nothing.

I spent the next 45 minutes or so, looking for a wiring diagram on the internet. Lots of pre-2008 diagrams but I couldn't find anything newer.

Are there any sensors that control whether or not the ignition coils get power? Or maybe something I've overlooked? Thanks

 

Giving you a bump after I moved you to the proper forum for better help. As with any vehicle when it comes to electronics, any after market devices like a security system or remote start been added?

 

The quickest thing to test or check would be the crankshaft position sensor---occasionally the pigtail lead/connector will fail or come loose--either would case your symptoms. Of course the CPS could have failed too.

There should be a DTC or code along with the Check Engine Light in the instrument cluster. Get a code reader and see if anything is stored.

 

Could be no fuel pressure. Turn the key to ON but not start. Do you hear your fuel pump fire up? Go press the shraeder valve on your fuel rail and see if gas squirts out under pressure (have a shop towel handy). Or, get a cheap Harbor Freight fuel pressure gauge and hook up to schraeder valve on fuel rail and verify you have fuel pressure.
