There are some companies that make catbacks for the V-10. I spoke with Flowmaster recently. They used to have the kit a few years ago but no longer carry it. Depending on how good you are with tools & a welder, the Flowmaster F-250 kit might fit with some minor mods for gas tank clearance and more length in front of the muffler. The 50 is 18" long and the 70 is 22". I believe the F-250 kit fits a 133" WB CC while the Excursion has a 137.1" WB.

The 50 & 70 are both relatively mild. 40s & 44s more aggressive. I am ordering my FM 70 BB II tomorrow, 3" offset/offset part # 53073. To save a little money I am going to use the stock tail pipe, which is 3" with mandrel bends. A friend is going to weld it for me. $113 for the muffler, free shipping to lower 48. You can get a decent stainless tip as well for about $40 and your rusty tailpipe will be neatly tucked away under the quarter panel. $153 for a new exhaust and I get to get my hands dirty!

Here is helpful thread:

and a web site with lots of sound clips.

Happy shopping

I have a Borla cat back exhaust on my 04 F-250 V-10. It has a deeper sound at low RPM'S but is just as quiet as the stock exhaust at 65 MPH. I can't say if it really made any preformance differance though. The only other mod I did is install a K&N air filter. Gas mileage about the same,14 to 15 MPG on a long trip. Above 70 MPH high 13's to about 14 MPG. Truck is a regular cab with 8'bed and 3.73 rear and 265-75-16 tires.

I know that Banks has a kit out. Don't know if it will fit your truck but you can check.

I personally love Banks. The TorqueTubes combined with the Monster Exhaust are perfect. Some here have said there is a slight drone to it, I however, don't notice it, or don't care. What I do know though, is that you do not want to go with Gibson. Spend a bit of cash, get a good system that will last the life of your truck. Gibson is just crap. Have you ever seen their headers?

I was thinkin bout the Borla dual system cuz i CAN NOT get the sound i want. Been through about three or four set ups so far. Got the FM 40 Dual exit, Hi flo cat and spd Y pipe..... sounds good at idle but between 2-3k rpms it sounds horrible.

I am not sure that you will get a great sound from any after market exhaust system for the V-10. It all stems from the firing order of the V-10. You will never get the rumble that you hear from a V-8 with it's different firing order.

Do you still have the stock manifolds?

agreed, the V10 simply will never sound like a ol school V8 with its bubbly exhuast rumble..

but given that i have heard some aftermarkets that sound better then others..

Yeah i still have stock manifolds. I had a great sound wit the stock Y and a FM 40 split exit set up i had but the SPD took that away, tried the new cat and it got worse. Possibly gonna go back to the stock Y. but i dont know. Maybe new headers would do the trick???????????

The problem is the stock manifolds. My dad had the same problem when he put the SPD Y on his truck. I put on a Flowmaster catback with a rather large FM70 muffler and it didn't get rid of the bad sound between 2200-3000rpm. I came to the conclusion its the poor design of the stock manifolds and the firing order of the V10. I figure the exhaust gases run into eachother in that rpm range and cause the flutter and bad sound which comes from the flutter.

I have the Thorley headers/Y on my V10 and there is zero flutter. The sound did change from the stock manifolds and stock Y but the bad sounds from the flutter is gone and I picked up quite a bit more power. I got my truck sounding pretty good with an FM70 and an aftermarket cat. I would highly recommend getting the Thorley or Banks headers. You will be wasting money putting on different exhaust systems/mufflers until you do something about the stock manifolds.

thats the prob i dont want to be spend the cash going from one set up to another.im sure we all dont have money to be wasting ! i do understand trial and error sometimes cant be avoided , i guess it comes down to personal preference. and yes that’s the prob with the v10 firing order and smaller cylinders you will never get the deep sound you can get from the v8 ,just trying to get a nice sound with a little extra power if possible

Smaller cylinders? I don't think there is anything small about 6.8Ls. So many want the burble of a V8, I personally, am starting to hate it. I like the low end thunder and then the high whine that accompanies my V10, and I like the fact that it sounds like a very pissed off V6. The V8 rumble is just so played out. Everybody and their brothers mother has some sort of V8 with a stupid, loud, exhaust on it.
