2005 F350 6.0L, Good, Bad, Ugly.

Thinking about looking at a 6.0L PSD 2005 vintage. Did they have the wrinkles ironed out yet? I am an owner of a 99 F350 V-10 and like the F350 platform just not sure about the 6.0L. What should I be looking for as far as problem areas?

get an oasis report on any truck that you are looking at. the 05s are about the best year for the 6.0s, but they still have egr problems and egr cooler problems, if you bypass them you get rid of most of the issues for the 6.0. Good luck... i love my 05

I disagree - the 05's had quite a few improvements but the late 06's and 07's have the most improvements (especially improvements to the HPOP and the STC fitting.

Lots of folks also prefer the 03's, but I would prefer as much warranty left as possible.

My 04 6.0 has run with no more than expected wear and tear. EGR flow malfunction light comes on, pop out hte egr valve and hit it with carb or break cleaner and scrub with a tooth brush. Get the latest flash and baring any serious abuse, it should run for some time to come. Standard maintenance, genuine ford filters and replacement parts, and a general looking after, and you should be fine.

I could not agree more.

Fix (by fix, I mean get rid of) the egr and cooler, route the CVV to air, a tune uploaded by SCT and you are on your way!

One of the best, most fun trucks out there!

The motor will always impress you power wise.
Getting it to be reliable (see above) will Keep you smiling.
