magnaflow y pipe

Anyone use this piece?
i am curious about the tube diameters, i am unable to find anything about it, i cannot tell if this is a stock sized replacement, or if it is like the bassani 2.5 in downpipe, 3" outlet.
at half the price, i would like to use the magnaflow, but i want the size of the bassani.

this is the bassani: Bassani Y Pipe

and the magnaflow: MagnaFlow 93312 - MagnaFlow Direct-Fit Catalytic Converters - Overview - SummitRacing.com

the magnaflow states 2.5" inlet, and 2.25" outlet, which makes no sense to me.

I have never personally used either of those. one of my good friends on the other hand, had a 302 with the magnaflow on it for a while. it sounded pretty good and had a decent power gain over stock. He got bored with it after a while and got true duals, magnaflow high flow cats and universal 1-in-1-out mufflers. it sounded amazing and there was mild but noticeable power gain over the Y pipe. the whole system at a muffler shop cost him a little less than $400 (pipe, cats, mufflers and tips)...just my 2 cents

I am in cali, so if i did this, it would have to be without the smog gods knowing. it would still pass tailpipe emissions. I was thinking maybe the bassani offroad, and a cali legal cat. I hate this states smog laws.

thats why i love louisiana. as long as it doesnt sound to loud, no illegal tint and lights and horn work your good. you could always get the magnaflow OEM style converters. or buy some other brand that is 50 state legal.

good luck,
kevin

The descriptions at that site are awful. No wonder it is so confusing. I used a Bassani 58150B2 on my '92 F350 w/351W. It is the off road version. Then I used a Magnaflow 59929 converter. The Y-pipe necks up to 3" right after the junction of the manifold down pipes. On a 351W I think those are 2.5". It is a very nice piece. The Spun Series converter is rated for up to 6.2L engines and test weight of 6000 lbs. The cat is very compact with a metallic core.

The Magnaflow 93312 is designed to fit the OEM sized pipes after the converter, therefore the reason for the restrictive 2.25" after-cat pipe size. Not the best setup IMHO. The Magnaflow Y-pipe w/CAT is CARB legal, it may the best way to go as far as performance gain. I was concerned of the rating for the converter due to my 8800 lbs. GVW on my F350. That is why I opted for the B2 version with my choice of converter.

can't speak to the magnaflow, but i got the bassani pipe with cat for my 1996 F350 with 351. here's a couple of pics i took a while back comparing the stock pipe to the bassani pipe. fit and finish are great, and its stainless. i got it to my door for under $400. not cheap, but it'll last forever. i don't regret spending the extra bucks for the bassani unit. you can see the o2 sensor is in a different location as the bassani is designed for an f150/bronco.

Great photos illustrating the differences between the stock F250/350 y-pipe to the Bassani designed for the Bronco. My setup is basically the same, except I used a different converter even at that my cat. looks very much like the one in the photos.

As long as you use a shorty header designed for a Ford truck any of the listed y-pipes without the need for a trip to the exhaust shop. I was short on cash so I stuck with the stock designed manifolds for my install.
