Cool Best way to strip interior paint

PO brush-painted the interior of my truck (well, at least the top half of it) with white latex-based house paint. I have struggled with many of the interior pieces as far as getting them stripped of this crap so I could paint them properly... the catch? They were removable.

Now I am down to the interior shell itself, and I am looking for the neatest and fastest way to get rid of this profilactic paint job. I tried hitting some areas with an orbital sander, but the discs almost immediately gunked up. It won't peel off either...it is too thin.

It's crazy, I know...but at least it will be gone in a couple of weeks, come heck or high water!

Any tips on how to do it? I gotta get this stuff off soon, before it gets too cold to paint. It's causing my interior to rust, too.

Paint stripper, probably the best thing to use. Very little effort on your part to get the paint off.

Ya, paint stripper works good. I used some of the spray on stuff (I think from 3M) and it worked pretty good. I still have to do some sanding, but much easier when you have most of the paint off than trying to sand it all off.

This is how I'm going to do my floor boards. I picked up one of these from China Town (Harbor Freight) for $19.00 and the wire wheel was $4.

Overkill?? Aircraft is the name on the can, don't know if it's the brand name or what, but I got it from an auto body supply store and the can says it's used for stripping paint from autos. Just curious, but you chimed in with a smart a** response to me giving my opinion on what to use, so do you have any useful input? Didn't think so

^^^^That's funny^^^^...........as for the post, YES the name on the can is aircraft stripper and YES, it curls the paint up basically on contact. Works great!

Aerosol can, light blue in color with white text. Quite a TALL can if I recall.

Thank you! Yea, the first time I used it I wasn't sure what to expect. I had tried the wire wheel and sandpaper but felt like I was getting absolutly nowhere (not to mention the little wire pieces hitting you every 10 seconds). So I tried the stripper and shanes right, the paint almost falls off. I then used a sanding disc on a grinder to get whatever was left. Someone told me though to try not to use it on any seams because it can seep in and come back to haunt you when you paint. And price-wise it's not bad at all, considering the time you'll save.

non toxic, 100% organic and it is supposed to work great. took a few seconds to start working on the show.

If it is a latex house paint on metal, use a heat gun and a wire bursh. Will come off easy with no or very little mess. I use on wood window frames and it strips real good and fast.

Thanks, that's just what I was looking for. I don't want to strip everything off the interior, because I don't want the hassle of having to re-prime and re-seal it all.

I had to remove interior wall paint off my concrete slab of my house.. went through every method and chemical I could think of.

The solution totally pissed me off because it was so simple. A green scrubby sponge and water. No really, took it right off the floor.

I cant guarantee it will work as well on steel, but if its really "wall paint" it may slide right off.

Good luck!

Thanks Mike. I had thought of that, and I may have to resort to it...but I really don't want to introduce moisture to anything I don't absolutely have to...especially around the inner window seals where rust is already beginning to form.

Thats what a few cans of WD-40 are good for - and actually what it was made for.

Dry as best you can, overspray with WD-40 and then use some good degreaser to clean up when you are all done and ready to paint.
