An idea for stripping/painting my frame

I am thinking of making a homemade rotisserie to strip and paint the frame on my 67. I was going to use two engine stands of similar height/construction, and make a couple of rigs out of square tube, that would bolt up to the frame on either end, and weld a round tube that would fit the engine stands in the center of each square tube.

Has anyone done this, or known anyone that has? I just thought it would be soooo much eaiser to do the frame this way, and I don't have a couple grand laying around to buy a professional rotisserie.

Should work for just a frame. Had mine blasted, but for painting I just used my engine puller(cherrypicker). Set it on jackstands for one side, lifted with the hoist and turned it over for the other side.

I'll make sure to get some pics when it's time to give it a try! Yeah, I don't think you could use this for a body, to unstable.

Some rotisseries are beefed up engine stands. If you have them, or can get them cheap enough, I say use them. If you use some common sense, you should have no problems.

Good to see it worked for you. I'll be stealing this idea when I restore a pinto in the future.

BTW... Nice sedan!

I bet you could mount a pinto between 2 engine stands like that!

Pat, after about 20 hours of cleaning and sandblasting my frame and only having 25% of it done i finally gave up and took it to a sandblast co. they did the frame, inner finders, rad support, tranny crossmember, bat tray, spare tire carrier and front bumper for all of 220 bucks! i was very happy and they turned out clean as a whistle! i will be taking the bed, doors, hood, grill, upper and lower valence, finders to them soon, the guy said maybe 350-375 for all.

what's in the big tanks?

A word of caution.....sandblasting sheet metal will warp it. If you chose to go the blast method, I recommend either walnut shells, the little plastic shards or even soda blasting (I do not like soda blasting as it can lead to problems further down th eroad)

I'm going to give it a try. If it doesn't work out, I have a company that I can take it to.

Northern tool has one for $999 it is on page 287 of their 2009 fall/winter master catalog if the link doesn't work. Search for auto lift rack.

If you go to the northern link look at the more images tab, then look at the last image they have. Nothing like a toy car photo shopped on to the lift to make me want to buy it!

I proably would not trust it to a complete car, even my sons Fox Body Mustang. But the jack on it would be nice. Have a nice day.
