The New Purchase...1979 F-350 4x4

Well...Here it is...I just purchased this 1979 F-350 4x4...460 engine with an Edelbrock Carb and Edelbrock Performer Intake...and...THE HOLY GRAIL Front axle...Dana 60 High Pinion!!! Paid a Whopping 500 bucks for it!!! Now...to find a place to put it...and get the tow truck front studs replaced and the sling belting fixed so i can go pick it up....Purchased it from the original owners grandson....still titled to his grandfather that just passed away the first part of august...it was purchased new....and it is a Utah truck (DSO 73)....if you guys are interested I can scan in the title.

For some reason I seem to find the deals when I am not really looking that hard...If I am really trying to find something I usually end up coming up empty handed....I was just doing a search for the heck of it last week and stumbled upon it by accident...turns out it was only about 50 or so miles away...and I have probably driven past it and said "Look and old 78 or 79 2 wheel drive truck"...Darn think looks like a 2wd from a distance!!! they said it has been sitting there for at least 4 years...so i am pretty sure I've seen it several times...just to think the gold mine it had and no one had a clue!!!

If it has a 460, the engine has been swapped, because Ford didn't offer a 460 w/4WD until 1983.

The engine code is the 4th digit of the VIN.

1979 F350 4WD VIN engine codes: B = 300 I-6 // H = 351M 2V // S = 400 2V.

Ford also didn't offer a 460 with a manual transmission until 1983.

It's definitely a swap....I had always heard that you could only get the auto behind the 460 as well...could never figure out why....was Ford afraid putting a 460 in a truck as well as a 460 in front of a stick going to cause too many warranty problems from abuse??

While I dunno what Ford's reasoning was, I doubt it had anything to do with wear and tear.

1973 was the first year Ford offered the 460 on F100/350's, but didn't offer a 460 4WD, or a 460 with a manual trans until 1983. and then only in F250/350's.

No 460's in passenger cars after 1978, no 460's in F100/150's after 1979...except CA.

No 460's were available in F100/150's in CA after 1977.

Nice score for 500 bucks! HP60, edelbrock carb and intake, super cooler radiator, you certainly got your moneys worth.

The 460 swap is a very common conversion.
