coil spring axle swap??

I just want to say thank you to everyone for the posts and threads. Im new to the forum and have learned alot. My question is I see everyone saying to use the front axle out of 97 and down f350 but then its rougher than cob on riding. Can I use an axle from a newer ford with the coil springs? Im in the process of going through the whole truck and doing some modification and im not afraid of fabwork and creativity. Thanks for any insight.

CHeck out NMB2s thread, he went coilover... <97 axles fit directly thats why theyre used, but you can buy an RSK that will allow you to run SD leaves that will ride smoother, which is what im doing. Its not the axle that makes the vehicle ride rough, its the springs. The SD leaves are longer, thus they ride better. However they wont ride like a coilover setup.

It is linked in my earlier post. He has one on here too, but the build thread on the dodge cummins forum is way more comprehensive...

I appreciate that. Another question in regards to this is if I go with a newer axle than 97 can the bolt pattern be changed to the 8x6.5?

I have heard of it being done, but I don't know what all is involved. If you get a newer metric front axle it would make better sense to get the matching rear axle with disc brakes. That would be my choice if I was going through all the expense and fab work, but I know it can be converted to 8x6.5 if you must. There was a guy selling axles on Craigslist who said he would convert a SD Dana 60 front to 8x6.5 for $300 extra... But in my area that would buy the SD rear axle. Just sayin'...

Yea ^ 10.5 is a supirior axle period. Exactly what im doing, snagged a pair of axles out of an 02. Especially if you get the 07+ or whenever, things are straight up nasty.. call it a super 60 for a reason, but back to being coil. you may be able to just re-drill the hub and rotor for 8x6.5
